Finding the Right Granite Counter Tops

To begin with there are many debates that surround the use of Granite, one of them being the need to re-seal a Granite countertop once a year because one of the properties of Granite is that it is porous. Another is whether or not Granite emits any kind of radiation that may pose as being hazardous from a health standpoint. The radiation is of course Radon and thus far, there is no real concrete evidence that can clarify or substantiate the claims pertaining to this particular property of Granite.

Nonetheless, the use of Granite in and around the Ottawa and Gatineau area has been popular for many years. As such, finding the right Granite to use in your own home whether it is being constructed or you are in the midst of renovating. There are generally a few different reasons people choose this medium for a countertop, the first being that it is one of the hardest natural materials, where another may be that it come in many patterns and colours.

Another property of Granite is that it is heat resistant and while it is porous, it is known as being non-absorbent. This makes the choices for finding the right Granite more of a personal nature than anything else, albeit the stone itself comes from many locations found around the world. This makes finding a type of Granite that fits the décor of your Ottawa or Gatineau kitchen carrying the most weight aside for the cost.

While the list for choosing Granite over other mediums is not exhaustive, cleaning Granite is easy because it does not need any special cleaning agents for this purpose. In a study performed by the Marble Institute of America, it was discovered that Granite rated higher in this aspect, using a culture of E coli bacteria as the agent to remove, over many other materials used as countertops found in the construction trade. From a health and safety standpoint, this would be the single factor as to why you would want to choose Granite above other types of materials available.

In any scenario, Granite is still a preferred material for use as a countertop in Ottawa and Gatineau. While some people may provide viable alternatives, they still do not come close to the real thing. The best thing to do is to do your research, find what fits your taste, and style that will look good in your home.
